GALA UNION DES ARTISTES 1959 In 1923, in order for the Union - Lot 77
GALA UNION DES ARTISTES 1959 In 1923, in order for the Union des Artistes to be able to continue to help old artists who had been deprived of work, and therefore of resources, Max Dherly had an idea. He asked the biggest stars of the entertainment world of the time to perform a free circus act during an exceptional evening. The proceeds would go to the Union's social works. The artists, who were enthusiastic about the idea, willingly lent their support. The show was such a success that the Union des Artistes Gala became a tradition that would last for decades. The Bouglione brothers put the Cirque d'Hiver at the disposal of the Union. Thus, year after year, the famous and less famous members of the entertainment world made it a point to be present, on the ring or in the hall. The worldly public has to be seen there. The numbered programme was sponsored by luxury goods companies, fashionable painters donated works to illustrate the cover, and tickets were very expensive. A folio program with numerous reproductions c.1959.
