Tyiwara Bamana crest mask, Mali, wood, first half of the 20th century. Primarily attached to a wicker headdress, this sculpture is a crest mask used in the agrarian rites of the Bambara, managed by a society of initiates called Tyi wara "champion of cultures". This figure combines three animals of the bush: the antelope, the pangolin and the anteater. Each of these animals evokes for the Bambara farmers an episode of the founding myth. Diameter : 86 cm
