CAROLINE OTERO. aka "La Belle Otero". Singer and dancer, notably at the Moulin-Rouge, thanks to its founder Joseph Oller. In August 1898, Otero became "the first star in the history of cinema" when operator Félix Mesguich filmed a dance number using the Lumière cinematograph. A great courtesan of the Belle Époque, she seduced Edward VII, King of England, Leopold II, King of Belgium, and Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia. Purple bolero with gold embroidery circa 1900.
