CHOUBRAC, Alfred (1853–1902). French painter, draftsman, pos - Lot 404
CHOUBRAC, Alfred (1853–1902). French painter, draftsman, poster artist, and costume designer. Alongside Jules Chéret, he is considered one of the pioneers of the modern, illustrated, and colorful poster of the Belle Époque. Already famous for the hundreds of posters he created for Parisian cabarets and theaters (such as the Moulin Rouge and the Folies Bergère), Choubrac naturally applied the conventions of theatrical poster design to the nascent cinema, contributing to the creation of costumes. Watercolor with gouache highlights and rhinestones, “Personnage aux banderilles,” signed circa 1900. Approximately 23 x 31 cm.
