GESMAR. Charles Gesmar (born Charles Geismar, 1900–1928) was an iconic French poster artist and costume designer of the Roaring Twenties. Despite a meteoric career cut short by his untimely death at the age of 27, he left a profound mark on the world of Parisian cabaret and music hall. Gesmar is best known for his close relationship with the great star of the era, Mistinguett, for whom he became the official illustrator, protégé, and confidant when he was only 16 years old. “Le Clairon.” Signed gouache. 32 x 48 cm.
